UNT computational epidemiologist to speak in Department of State Health Services webinar series

Date/Time:
30 Nov 2011 - 11:00am - 12:30pm

The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Grand Rounds webinar series presents Armin Mikler, UNT professor of computer science and engineering, and director of the Center for Computational Epidemiology and Response Analysis (CeCERA) at the University of North Texas. The DSHS series features speakers who bridge academic based research with practitioner problems in diverse health related fields.  Mikler will discuss the theory of computational modeling and its relationship to the practice of public health and emergency preparedness.

Armin Mikler, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering

Following the accidental or deliberate release of harmful biological agents, responders have little time to mount an adequate response. CeCERA researchers are developing new tools that will help to prepare for such events. "Where?" and "How?" questions are the basis for developing efficient emergency response plans long before these health emergencies actually occur. Mikler’s lecture, “Utilizing Computational Tools for the Design and Analysis of Bio-Emergency Response Plans,” will use case models to demonstrate the tools and techniques used by the Center for simulation and forecasting.

The Department of State Health Services webinar sessions are broadcast “live” from the State of Texas Grand Rounds in Austin, Texas and are made available to DSHS regional offices and hospitals, local health departments and community mental health centers, academic institutions, and other public health and mental health participants across Texas and beyond.

Register for the November 30 webinar presentation to learn more about Mikler’s research and the Center for Computational Epidemiology and Response Analysis.
