The Division of Research and Innovation is partnered with the distinguished AtKisson Training Group LLC, which is focused on proposal preparation and review processes that lead to increased external funding submission success. This research development faculty training is designed to convey the fundamentals of proposal writing, concrete tips, and operational strategies. The session combines a lecture format with engagement activities to fit the range of potential funding targets identified by UNT. The targeted learning outcomes include: 
 

  • Understanding the preparation steps before beginning the writing process; 
  • Learning techniques for creating a strong argument for the proposed project; 
  • Developing techniques for communicating the approach clearly; and 
  • Understanding how these techniques connect to the process by which a grant proposal is reviewed. 

 

Guest Speaker:

Dr. Amanda Welch earned a PhD from the University of Florida, and combines her passion for science and writing to assist researchers in clearly communicating their scholarly work. During her postdoctoral fellowship in molecular physics at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System, she began assisting junior faculty members in grantsmanship and writing during and discovered that she could take this fulfilling experience and make it a full-time career. Amanda serves as the lead consultant for individual proposal development and is a key editor for complex proposal development. She also teaches the scientific manuscript development course where trainees complete the course with a full draft of a publication. Amanda assists in presenting grant training seminars and enjoys using new technologies to increase engagement during virtual seminars. Clients and colleagues appreciate Amanda's interest in using new technological solutions to increase engagement during virtual seminars and her calm nature under pressure.
