"UNT's Strategic Plan for Research: 2017-2022" was filed with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in response to the board's request that institutions update their strategic plans for research. Leading up to the revision, research was one of the primary topics covered in President Smatresk's 2015 Planning Implementation Workshop and Vice President Tom McCoy hosted a town hall to bring faculty together to look at UNT's path toward national research prominence.

Industry is searching for materials and manufacturing solutions that bring more efficient and competitive products, and UNT scientists are leading the creation, application and characterization of new materials for the 21st century.
