We're BioDiscovery Institute.

The Biodiscovery Institute (BDI) at the University of North Texas brings together researchers across biology, chemistry, engineering, and data science to accelerate discovery in the life sciences. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and shared research infrastructure, BDI drives innovation that supports health, food security, and energy solutions.

Our Vision

To be a global leader in discovering and engineering biological processes to create a sustainable bio-based economy.

Our Mission

We combine expertise in life sciences, engineering, and data science to discover and innovate next-generation biotechnologies while training future scientists to solve health, food, and energy challenges.

A Collaborative Research Environment

Established as an interdisciplinary research hub within UNT’s Division of Research and Innovation, BDI fosters collaboration across departments and colleges. By co-locating investigators and advanced instrumentation, the institute promotes idea exchange, multi-investigator projects, and the development of competitive research programs.

BDI supports research from fundamental biological discovery to translational and applied biotechnology development.

Driving Discovery. Engineering Solutions.

Discover how the Biodiscovery Institute is advancing life sciences research and building the foundation for a sustainable bio-based economy.

Giving

The BioDiscovery Institute is committed to training the next generation of scientists prepared to solve the health, food, and energy security challenges of tomorrow. Your contribution will enhance the BDI competitive summer fellowship program that allows undergraduate and graduate students to conduct research in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. Thank you for making a difference in the future workforce of North Texas and beyond!
