University of North Texas dedicates to providing our students with valuable opportunities
to engage in research and hands-on learning experiences. One way UNT enhancing access
to on-campus research opportunities is through the integration of Handshake, a powerful
platform connecting students with employers, internships, and research opportunities.
With Handshake, students can easily discover and apply for research positions tailored
to their interests and skills, furthering their academic and professional development
while contributing to groundbreaking research initiatives across our campus. Here's
a step-by-step guide on how to use Handshake to search for student research opportunities:
- Create an Account: If you haven't already, sign up for a Handshake account. You can do this by visiting
the Handshake website and clicking on the "Sign up for an account" option, choosing
University of North Texas and using EUID to create a profile.
- Complete Your Profile: Fill out your profile with accurate information about your education, skills, experiences,
and interests. This will help Handshake suggest relevant opportunities to you.
- Explore Opportunities: Once your profile is complete, navigate to the "Jobs" or "Internships" tab on the
Handshake dashboard. Use the search bar to enter keywords related to research opportunities,
such as "research assistant," "undergraduate research," or specific fields of interest
like "biology research" or "computer science research."
- Filter Search Results: After entering your search keywords, you can further refine your results using filters.
Filters may include location, job type (part-time, full-time, internship), job function,
industry, and more. Select the filters that are most relevant to your preferences
and goals.
- Browse Listings: Review the listings that match your search criteria. Each listing will provide details
about the research opportunity, including the role, requirements, responsibilities,
and application instructions.
- Save Favorites: As you browse listings, you can save the ones that interest you by clicking on the
"Save" or "Favorite" button. This allows you to easily revisit these opportunities
later.
- Apply: When you find a research opportunity that aligns with your interests and qualifications,
click on the listing to view the full details. Follow the application instructions
provided by the employer or organization, which may include submitting a resume, cover
letter, and any other requested documents.
- Network: Additionally, consider networking on Handshake by connecting with employers, alumni,
and other students who may be involved in research or related fields. Networking can
lead to valuable insights, advice, and potential opportunities.
- Check Notifications: Keep an eye on your Handshake notifications for updates on new opportunities, messages
from employers, and other relevant information.
- Stay Active: Finally, continue to engage with Handshake regularly by updating your profile, exploring
new opportunities, and staying connected with the Handshake community. This will increase
your chances of finding and securing student research opportunities.
