Gail Shadle has served as the UNT Greenhouse Facilities Manager for 7 years, first as the BioDiscovery Institute Greenhouse Manager, and then in her current role as the UNT Core Greenhouse Facilities Manager. In this role, Gail coordinates the use, maintenance and repair of the three research greenhouse complexes that make up the Core Facilities, oversees USDA-APHIS compliance, writes standard operating procedures based on the USDA-APHIS guidelines, and assists the Researchers in the coordination of greenhouse space, set up of benches and irrigation and set up of system conditions to accommodate experimental parameters.
Prior to her position as the Greenhouse Manager, Gail worked as the Laboratory Manager in the Dr. Richard A. Dixon laboratory at UNT for almost 5 years. For 14 years Gail worked as a Research Associate at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in the Dr. Richard A. Dixon laboratory. In that capacity, she conducted plant research largely involving characterization of genes and intermediates in the lignin pathway. Gail’s research resulted in 10 publications in scientific journals. Gail has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Chemistry from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. In her spare time, she enjoys family, nature, and spending time outdoors.

John Sullivan
Maintenance Technician

John Sullivan has served at UNT Greenhouse Technician for two years. In this role, John performs routine maintenance at Discovery Park Research Greenhouse as well as SRB and Life Science Research Facility. Prior to his position in the greenhouse, John worked as a building maintenance Technician for Texas Woman’s University and as an Irrigation Technician for UNT. In his spare time, he enjoys sailing, canoeing, hiking and being in nature.
